Phala Phala matter still a hot topic ahead of ANC January 8 speech

One might say you most definitely don’t need an expert or political analyst to tell you about an interesting year ahead of us in politics 2023 will be.

With just less than a month fresh from the governing party ANC’s 55th elective conference in December, President Ramaphosa who was reelected for the second term made most of the headlines because of the Phala Phala farm saga hanging over his head.

Ramaphosa was heavily criticised mostly in media and Parliament by opposition parties for walking left while talking right on corruption. EFF is heard on occasions saying when Ramaphosa first made a speech in Parliament and campaigned for presidency he spoke harshly against corruption and said he will make sure that those found in the wrong face the consequences.

The party called for him to be impeached following a report by the independent panel in Parliament which said that Ramaphosa has a case to answer following a robbery that occurred in his Phala Phala game farm. But they failed to secure enough votes to have the report adopted in Parliament after the ANC voted against it.

Fast forward to December, Ramaphosa was elected for the second term as the president against former health minister Dr Zweli Mkhize. His race was not easy as there was many other party members who were against him running for the second term saying he is destroying the party.

With just few days ahead of one of the most important times of the party, January 8th, Ramaphosa is faced with a tough task ahead of him to bring not only the party but the country as whole to his confidence in taking the country forward as we face unemployment, corruption, crime and load shedding.

Responding to the party’s post on twitter about the January 8, former City of Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba threw a jab at the party’s president saying he hopes
