A 2-1 win in the World Cup group match opener of Saudi Arabia against one of the tournament’s favourites, Argentina saw soccer fans having their hands on their heads and jaws dropped in disbelieve of the final results.

The game started on a high note with Messi giving Argentina a 10th-minute lead from the penalty spot on Tuesday at the Lusail stadium.

But their celebration was short-lived in the second-half with goals from the underdog team Saudi Arabia.

All thanks to Saleh Al-Shehri and Salem Al-Dawsari who helped the Saudis pull off one of the greatest shocks in World Cup history.

However, Argentina brought a fight to the game and the game could have been different following three tight offside calls in the first half that went against Argentina, denying them three potential goals.

The 35 years old Argentinean star Messi said the the Saudis most definitely brought a fight to the game and showed that they are not a walk in the park. He added that the game is still on and they still have time to redeem themselves in the next match.

“My message to the fans, have faith we will not leave you stranded” said Messi.

They will be up against Mexico on the 26th.
