Free State police Spokesperson Sgt Mahlomola Kareli said 34 undocumented foreign nationals are set make an appearance at Bloemfontein Magistrate court on a date to be set soon for contravention of the immigration Act.

Mareli said the 34 suspects were arrested this past Friday during a multi-disciplinary approach operation roadblock that was set up on the N1 north from Bloemfontein.

The operation consisted of Provincial Traffic Police, Home Affairs and South African Police Service members.

“At about 16:00 a bus allegedly heading to Cape Town, was stopped by the reaction team. All stakeholders sent their search teams and it was discovered that 34 of the 48 passengers in the bus were all not having passports or any form of identification in their possession.”

“The 34 consisting of 12 males, 17 females and 4 infants, were taken off the bus and processed by immigration officials” said Mareli.
