“City of Tshwane owes us R 1,6Billion”

The capital city, City of Tshwane and Eskom are at logger heads yet again with payment agreements that are not fulfilled.

The power utility Eskom released a statement on Friday saying the Municipality owes them R 1,6billion of which only R492 million of the bill was paid. They added that bill was due and payable on 16 September, 2022.

Eskom said it had a meeting with the municipality on Friday and it had rejected the municipality’s proposed payment arrangement.

“The power utility advised the municipality to settle the balance of R1.1bn by close of business on Friday, 30 September 2022,”

“The meeting on Friday is one of numerous engagements Eskom has held with the City in an attempt to secure the payment for the debt owed by the Municipality. Eskom in the past that it would to implement different methods to recover money owed to it and has acquainted National Treasury to facilitate the dispute it has declared to attained a resolution to the Municipality’s inconsistent payment patern.”

They also said that City’s inconsistencies put them in a difficult situation as it impacts their cash flow.

The Municipality is yet to reply to the statement by Eskom.
