A 21 years old Onthatile Sebati is set to learn how long is she going to be locked up for, together with her two friends for the killing of her family.
The High Court in Tshwane heard that it was on December 06th, 2016 when Sebati conspired with her friends, Tumelo and Kagiso Mokone both 24 to kill her family members while the family was at their home in Mmakau, in the Northwest Province.
The two went to Sebati’s house where they collected her father’s firearm and came back in the evening of that same day to the house.
Sebati told the court that she went outside pretending to dispose of water but went to open the gate for the two and gave Kagiso her father’s car keys that was parked outside. Tumelo then proceeded to enter the house where he shot and killed Sebati’s 42-year-old father, a 40-year-old mother, a 19-year-old pregnant sister and her 6-year-old brother.
NPA spokesperson Lumka Mahanajana added that the trio took he father’s car but got in the mud few meters away from the house.
She handed herself over to the police few days later to make a confession of what she had done and the other duo were also arrested before confirming making a confession as well.
Surprising, they pleaded not guilty in court and disputed the confessions which led to a trial within a trial on the matter. However, the Judge ruled that the confession were admissible.
“Prosecutor Advocate Eric Sihlangu then led evidence that indeed Sebati organised a hit against her family and paid the two R50 000 each for the job. Furthermore, Kagiso was also linked to the offence by his fingerprints which were found in the car.”
“During the judgment, the judge agreed with the state that it had overwhelming evidence against the three and the state was able to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt. Therefore, the three were found guilty of all the charges preferred against them.”
The matter was postponed to 16-19 April 2024, for sentencing proceedings.
