Police Sergeant arrested for stealing and selling stolen items

Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba has confirmed a warrant of arrest that was issued against a 51 years old Police Sergeant for allegedly stealing and sealing exhibits that were recovered and recorded at a crime scene.

It is said that incident occurred on March 2024, 15th, while police officers including the said Sergeant where conducting crime prevention duties around Haenersburg when they spotted a suspicious looking vehicle that did not stop upon instruction to stop.

A high speed chase ensued which ended up with the suspect from the vehicle abandoning the motor vehicle and running on foot. Upon inspection of the vehicle and it’s contents, chainsaw suspected to be proceeds on theft were discovered they were taken to the police station and booked.

However, the Sergeant stole the chainsaws and sold them for his benefit.

A warrant of arrest was issued against him and presented on September 26th, 2025.

He is expected to make his court appearance October 24th 2025 at Tzaneen Magistrate court.
