Friends and family gathered at the Hellenic Cultural Centre in Johannesburg to bid the last farewell to the human rights activists, anti-apartheid lawyer and former Rivonia trialists lawyer George Bizos.
Bizos passed away last week at the age of 92 in the presence of his family.
He was given a Special Official Funeral Category 1 by President Matamela Ramaphosa.
Bizos was described as a selfless man who was passionate about human rights.
“His love for freedom put him in a collision course with the apartheid government. He did not understand how he as a white immigrant could be clothed and educated as opposed to a black person who was born in the country. This he could not accept” said President Ramaphosa.
