Man sentenced to life imprisonment for raping 5 years old girlfriend’s daughter

A 28 years old man has been sent to life imprisonment by the KwaDukiza Regional Court for raping a 5 years old little girl.

In this incident which occurred in November 2018, the said convicted said he went to visit his girlfriend at her place in Shakasville where he did not find her during that time of the night having gone to a night vigil.

He said that he found the said victim sleeping on the bed while her younger siblings were sleeping on a mattress next to the bed.

The KwaZulu Natal DPP Regional Spokesperson Natasha Kara said that the accused said in his plea that he became sexually aroused after seeing the little girl and began undressing himself and the girl and molested her.

He then went on to sleep after performing the evil act and the girlfriend had still not came back when he woke up and he left the house.

“When the woman returned, the child reported the incident to her. The child was unsure who the perpetrator was, as it was dark. She however suspected that it was him. She was taken to the police station where a case against the accused was opened. DNA samples were taken from him and the child.”

“The accused had initially denied the allegations against him when the DNA test results linked him to the rape, he had no other recourse but to plead guilty.”

The court also heard in a victim impact statement that the mother was deeply hurt by the incident saying that the perpetrator had destroyed the trust her children had on him because they saw him as a father figure.

The mother also said in this statement that the community has held her accountable for the gruesome act saying she failed her child.
