The North West High Court has handed down life sentence to a 39 years old Levy Selebogo for the murder of a 75 years old Keitumetse Nkgothoe who was found laying helpless in her home at Gopane village with head injuries in the early morning hours of March 16, 2018.
Upon discovery of her body in her home she was then rushed to the nearby clinic for medical attention but was later on certified dead with head injuries and broken ribs according to a post-mortem report.
Her cruel murder angered the community so much that they took the law into their own hands, wrongfully assaulted and killed Lloyd Nkgothoe for the murder of Keitumetse.
Lloyd Nkgothoe who is also said not to be anyway related to the deceased, was given a rope to hang himself by the mob during his assault.
NPA Spokesperson in the area Henry Mamothame said that the police were led to Selebogo following a thorough investigation which saw his fingerprints being discovered at the crime scene on the sliding door where he gained entry.
“At the time of committing this crime, Selebogo was on parole after being sentenced to 18 years imprisonment in 2004 for house robbery.”
“Selebogo was sentenced to seven years imprisonment for house breaking and intent to rob and murder, 20 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances and life imprisonment for murder” said Mamothame.
Selebogo’s sentencing was welcomed by the Acting Director of Public Prosecutions in the North West.
