Uncle gets life sentence for raping 8 years old niece

Verulam Regional Court in KwaZulu Natal has sentenced a 28 years old uncle to life in prison for raping his 8 years old niece.

In this incident which is said to have occurred in December 2019, the niece was visiting her grandmother’s house in Ndwedwe for a weekend.

A same area the convicted lives.

He asked the minor to accompany him to a nearby shop where he bought her chips and sweets.

Regional DPP Spokesperson in the area Natasha Kara said that the convict then asked the minor to accompany him to his house where he later on led her to a nearby river.

He raped her and gave her R 2 with a promise to give her R 100.00 if she kept quite about the ordeal.

“She then returned to her grandmother’s house and reported the incident immediately. The accused was swiftly arrested.”

Spokesperson Kara says that the grandmother later on passed away prior to the trial leaving the child’s mother and aunt to testify against the perpetrator.

“The state also submitted a victim impact statement compiled by the child and facilitated by court preparation officer. In the statement, the child said that she was embarrassed by her experience as her peers teased her about it. She also said that she hated her her uncle for what he had done”.
