Young father arrested for poisoning his two years old son

A 30 years old father is set to remain in police custody pending bail application for allegedly poisoning his 2 years old son which led to his demise.

Lerato Thobatsi made a brief appearance at Stilfontein Magistrates Court where he was remanded in custody.

It is said that Thobatsi got involved in an argument with his ex-girlfriend, the mother of his three children aged 2, 4 and 8 years after breaking up.

He made a call to the mother and requested to see the children on August 30th before going to her home in Kanana near Klerksdorp on the said Friday night. It is said that she consented to him taking the children on a condition that her brother accompanies them.

Upon arrival at his place, he told the children’s uncle to go back home and he left with the 4 years old child. Leaving behind the 2 years old and the 8 years old.

He allegedly called the mother of the children and told her what he was about to do.

The mother then called the children’s grandmother who informed her that they were on the way to hospital after the suspect allegedly poisoned himself and the two children.

Upon arrival at the hospital, it was discovered that the 2 years old was in bad condition after consuming the poison whereas the 8 years old had not consumed it.

The father was arrested immediately after being discharged from the hospital.

The toddler unfortunately died in the hospital.
