Speaker of the National Assembly Nosiviwe Mapisa-Ngcakula has decided to jump ship before being pushed aside.

“Today, the 3rd of April, I have submitted to the Acting Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Lechesa Tsenoli, my letter of resignation as both the Speaker of the National Assembly and a Member of Parliament of the Republic of South Africa. The resignation is effective immediately.”

That is an extract of the resignation letter written by recently corruption and fraud accused Nosiviwe Mapisa-Ngcakula.

Mapisa-Ngcakula was also due to face a Motion of no confidence against her tabled by the DA following speculations of her arrest which she later on ran to court to avoid the arrest.

The speculations of her arrest came days before her house was raided by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU).

Mapisa-Ngcakula said she resigned because she wants to put all her energy and time to deal with the investigation ahead.

“My resignation is in no way an indication of guilt regarding the allegations being levelled against me. I have made this decision in order to uphold the integrity and sanctity of our Parliament, an appeal institution of our system of government representing of the People of South Africa as a whole.”

She still maintained her innocence and said this is a witch hunt against her.
