The EFF has hit back at the judge presiding over Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng who said the violence happening in Parliament on our national TV is unnecessary and it shouldn’t be happening in the first place.

Mokgoatlheng said this during a court session when three suspects accused of killing the former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates captain Senzo Meyiwa refused to follow orders from the warden who was telling them to sit properly in court.

As the warden was explaining to the Judge what had occurred and why, Mokgoatlheng said that was unnecessary and the warden was well within his right to give them orders because he is the one responsible for their safety and protection.

Mokgoatlheng referenced to the incident that occurred earlier this year in the National Assembly during President Ramaphosa’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) where the EFF MPs attempted to storm on the podium to prevent him from speaking holding placards.

They were intercepted by the President’s security personnel and parliamentary security.

The EFF issued a statement in response to Judge Mokgoatlheng saying he should stick to his profession and leave politics alone.

“The EFF condemns in the strongest form the irresponsible commentary by the judge in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng who made condescending comments regarding Parliamentarians who sought to peacefully hold Cyril Ramaphosa accountable at the State of the Nation Address (SONA) on 9 February 2023.”

The party went on to say that they have recently noticed the trend in the judiciary of wanting to step into politics and they will not allow it.
