Man found with drugs worth 75million

A 49 years old man is set to remain in police custody after abandoning bail at Caroline District court on Thursday.

The 49 years old Bonginkosi Gamedze was arrested on July 16 after being found in possession of drugs through an operation by Secunda Serious Organised Crime Investigation team, White River K9, Elekwatini Fire department and Elekwatini LCRC.

Captain Dineo Sekgotodi said they received a tipoff about a 550 Isuzu truck allegedly carrying drugs.

“The truck was followed, and it was pulled over along Padplaas road. Upon the search, drugs estimated to over R75 million were found and confiscated. The suspect was arrested and appeared in court, whereby he decided to abandon his bail application.”

His case will resume on September 21, 2023 pending further investigations.
