A rapist Mozambican national Anselma George Mahumane has been found guilty on two counts of rape by the Pretoria High Court sitting in Benoni after almost evading arrest for almost 10 years.
NPA spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said that the 35 years old Mahumane first preyed on two teenage girls on two separate occasions. The 13 years old little was walking to Tsakane extension 1 when she was approached by Mahumane at an open space near the fire station on December 4th, 2013.
“He overpowered, strangled, and raped her, while unconscious, and thereafter, he left her lying on the ground. After regaining consciousness, while walking home she met with police officers who took her to the police station, to open a case and consult with a doctor.”
“Three years later, on 03 December 2016, while the 16-year-old was walking home from the shops, Muhumane and two other men who were never traced, threatened the teenager with a knife and proceeded to rape her by taking turns. After they dragged her to a veld and left her there. She reported the matter to the police. Mahumane was arrested and later released in April 2017.”
Mahanjana said that his release was as a result of refusal to accept DNA evidence by the Magistrate and the case was struck off the roll.
He was rearrested three years later, 2020 for the same offence and was handed down 10 years direct imprisonment on July 2021.
He told the court pleads not guilty on the matter the 16 years old because he was in a relationship with her.
The matter was postponed to August 30-31 for pre-sentencing and he is facing kidnapping and assault charges on top.
