A former Police Officer’s wife, Mamokgethe Mashimbi is set to remain in police custody together with her co-accused for the alleged plot to murder Sergeant Thomas Mashimbi.
The incident is said to have occurred on February 21, 2018 where Mashimbi was shot dead in his house in Lebanon Mabopane.
NPA Sookesperson Henry Mamothame said that the 41 years old Mamokgthe recruited, a 38 years old Thandi Khumalo, 32 years old William Maluleka, 35 years old Nicholas Malope and 28 years old Jan Chauke to plot her husband’s murder in January 2018.
It is said she first recruited two other individuals to execute the plan but they failed and later on reported the matter to the police hence they have now turned into State witnesses.
“She then approached Khumalo on the same plan. Khumalo then approached two other individuals and planned the execution.”
“Reports say that the meeting occurred between 7-24 January.”
Mamothame also said that the plan was executed on February 21, 2018 during the night. Mamokgethe allegedly ensured that both the gates and kitchen door were not properly closed to gain entry.
“Malope, Chauke and Maluleka entered the house where they shot Mashimbi dead and escaped with a TV, cellphone and estimated R 20 000 hard cash.”
All this occurred while Mamokgethe and their two children were in the other room and they were left unharmed.
Further investigations revealed that Mamokgethe reported Mashimbi on November 10, 2017 at the police station that he was abusive towards her. As a results, a protection order was granted and his firearm was confiscated.
It is believed that this was a plan to disarm him.
