EC Gov official and two accused arrested for R 1.5m bribery

A case involving an Eastern Cape Government official and two business people has been postponed to November 10th.

It is said according to NPA Spokesperson in the area Luxolo Tyali that a senior government official in the Eastern Cape, Neil Naidoo, who is a Chief Director of Community Safety and Liason allegedly paid money to the NPA’s Investigative Directives (ID) on behalf of business people who were under investigation for a shoddy business practice.

Matthew Pilay and Kassavan Govender are under the police radar in relation to a services rendered where a furniture supplied to the South African Police Services (SAPS) by KJP Traders. A company which is said to be ran by Pillay on behalf of his mother.

Tyali said that Chief Investigator allegedly received a message from Naidoo on March 9, 2022 requesting a meeting regarding the matter at hand.

”On 14 May 2022, after several meetings and negotiations, Naidoo met with the Chief Investigator and the R 1.5million was handed over, on behalf of Pillay and Govender. The initial promise was that the R 1.5million was the first installment of many more to come.”

“Naidoo, Pillay and Govender were arrested thereafter and will appear again on 10 November in the East London Magistrates Court for further investigation.

The High Court siting in East London granted the Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) and order to seize the said bribery funds following this successful trap that was set for the accused.

“The tainted funds will now be deposited into the Criminal Assets Recovery Account (CARA) to bolster law enforcement.”
