Two Atteridgeville murderers, 20 & 23, get life sentences

The Pretoria Magistrates’ Court has handed down heavy sentences for Atteridgeville criminal who had committed several offences including a shooting and killing of a 17 years old at a social gathering in a local tavern at Phatlotsane Atteridgeville.
The incident is said to have occurred on April 11th, 2017. Frank Mabunda and Phumlani Meje aged 20 years and 23 years respectively, approached the said victims who were at a social gathering that was not far from where they were and started to demand cellphones and other belongings from the victims.
Not long in the act, they then fired several shorts which caught the 17 years old victim who died on the spot. But they were arrested on the same day, few hours later.
They had been in police custody since then.
Presiding over the case, was Magistrate Magdaline Erasmus who found them guilty of murder, two counts of attempted murder and two counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances each.
NPA Spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said that Mabunda was sentenced to one life term, and 28 years imprisonment. Both sentences were ordered to run concurrently.
Meanwhile, Meje was sentenced to 33 years imprisonment, and the sentence was also ordered to run concurrently with that of 10 years direct imprisonment. Both accused were also declared unfit to possess firearms.
