42 years old Charles Maboate imprisoned for the assault and murder of 37 years old girlfriend

Mpumalanga acting Police Commissioner Major General Thulani Phahla has welcomed a hefty sentencing of a 42 years old Charles Maboate who was found guilty of assaulting his 37 years old girlfriend to death.
The incident occurred May 20th 2020 where an argument between Maboate and the deceased girlfriend, Maria Malinga ensued resulting in Maboate severely assaulting Malinga until she became unconscious and left her alone on the street.
Mpumalanga Police Brigadier Leonard Hlathi said that Malinga was shortly rescued by community members who heard the commotion. Upon arrival at the scene Maboate was no where to be found.
“Members of the community who heard the commotion summoned the assistance from authority. Police and medical personnel arrived at the scene, found her lying alone on the street unresponsive and rushed her to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.”
Brigadier Hlathi added that Maboate ended up confiding in his neighbor who then accompanied him to Mmametlhake Police Station to report the matter and he was then arrested.
He was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment.
